Open to coders of all skill levels, the Hackathon is not just an opportunity—it's a platform for individuals to engage with Cyprus’s vibrant tech community, to connect, to learn, and to innovate.

Cyprus' leap into the future is marked by significant investments in tech education, infrastructure, and startups. From the implementation of e-governance to fostering smart city initiatives, Cyprus has made commendable strides. However, the journey is far from complete. 

While urban centers buzz with connectivity and innovation, rural areas and certain economic sectors still await their digital awakening. As the Cyprus Representation of the European Commission indicates, “Currently, fiber networks, which are critical for delivering gigabit connectivity, only reach 56% of households, while 5G coverage stands at 81% of the population, dropping to 51% in rural areas.” 

Their report expands on this point, stating that “55% of rural households are still not served by any advanced network and 9% are not yet covered by any fixed network at all.” On the backdrop of inequity in access to digital resources and findings in Cyprus’ DESI (Digital Economy and Society Index) profile, the Hackathon invites ideas that can permeate every corner of Cypriot life with technology's touch.

In this context, the HackAdTech Hackathon proposes two challenges, the first of which, Any IT Solutions to Improve Life in Cyprus, encourages participants to brainstorm and showcase their unique ideas and solutions. 

The HackAdTech Hackathon stands as a beacon for the island's youth, beckoning them to be the architects of the next wave of technological transformation. It is an arena that challenges curious, creative, and solutions-driven minds to think beyond the conventional, to ideate and forge IT solutions that streamline daily living, empower businesses, and uplift public services to new heights of efficiency and accessibility.

In this contest of intellect and imagination, participants are tasked to envision applications that navigate beyond the boundaries of today—whether it's revolutionizing the way citizens interact with their government, enhancing the connectivity of remote communities, or crafting digital tools that elevate environmental sustainability. 

The contest holds two challenges for participants in building the most innovative solution. Both challenges, framed by a set of easy-to-follow rules, include a total prize pool of €20,000, with €10,000 awarded to the winning team in each challenge, as well as additional special prizes from the event sponsors.
