Department of Environment Organizes Event Focused on Sustainable Waste Management

The Department of Environment at the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment is organizing an informative day titled "Rethink Waste, Revitalize Life" on November 23 at the Melina Mercouri Cultural Center in Palouriotissa.

According to an announcement by the Department, the event is part of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), which this year is set for November 18-26. The theme for 2023 is "packaging," with the motto "Don’t get wrapped up."

The Department clarifies that the event will allow various organizations and groups to present their activities related to the circular economy, reduction of packaging, food and single-use plastic waste, and the processing of textile products. The event's program is available online.

The European Week for Waste Reduction aims to promote sustainable waste management practices across Europe. It focuses on reducing, reusing, and recycling materials and waste, as well as promoting national and European policies on waste management.

Specifically, the day will feature presentations to raise awareness about waste management and showcase best practices implemented by various organizations.

Additionally, an exhibition will be held in the same venue, showcasing various activities and projects of the participants. Opportunities for exchange and collection of clothes, toys, and books will be available, along with special bins for collecting small electrical and electronic devices and batteries up to two kilograms, provided by WEEE Cyprus and AFIS Cyprus.

Interested individuals can fill out an electronic participation form by November 20, 2023. For more information, they can contact the Department at the phone numbers 22408923 and 22408938 or via email at [email protected] and [email protected].
