Launching ‘ASPIS,’ a United Front For Cybersecurity in Cyprus

A Collaborative Effort by Cypriot Authorities and Banking Association to Bolster Cybersecurity Awareness

The Digital Security Authority, the Cyprus Police, and the Association of Cyprus Banks are jointly conducting the "ASPIS" campaign to enhance information security.

In a meeting with stakeholders and authorities in the field of cybersecurity, George Michaelides, the Commissioner of Communications, highlighted a joint initiative by the Digital Security Authority and the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre of Cyprus under the Commissioner’s Office, the Cybercrime Sub-Directorate of the Cyprus Police, and the Association of Cyprus Banks. They are "pooling their forces, expertise, and experiences," creating an awareness campaign aimed at building a protective shield for citizens and organizations against cyber fraud through electronic methods.

Michaelides noted that the initiative, named ASPIS (Information Security and INFORMATION SECURITY), aims to inform citizens about the tactics and methods used by cybercriminals to gain access to personal data and bank accounts or to lure victims into fraudulent transactions with the intention of stealing money.

He emphasized that the informational effort targets the general public, with a focus on those groups more vulnerable and at higher risk of such attacks.

"This announcement marks the first collective effort by the participating organizations, calling on the media to actively contribute to the awareness campaign, aiming to defend citizens against electronic threats and cyber fraud," he stated. He added that as conducting electronic transactions and using electronic communication are daily realities for most citizens, ensuring security in these areas becomes even more critical, especially against those who threaten the safety of electronic transactions and communications.
