Participating in Progress - ETAP Joins EU Tourism Crisis Management Plan

The Paphos Tourism Development and Promotion Company has been chosen as one of 50 destinations across the European Union to participate in a project focusing on crisis management and governance in the tourism sector.

ETAP recently announced that a dedicated workshop took place in Paphos. This event saw the involvement of various key stakeholders, including representatives from the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, the Municipality of Paphos, EBE Paphos, SIKAP, the Kouklion Community, the Agritourism company, and a delegate from the Kinyra Lifeguard Association.

Under the expert guidance of Dr. Mariannas Sigala, a professor at the University of Sheffield, participants engaged deeply in the workshop. They enhanced their knowledge about the tools and data sources essential for handling crisis situations effectively.

The workshop also fostered a rich exchange of ideas and proposals aimed at enhancing the frameworks and procedures governing tourism. Additionally, it focused on boosting the area's capacity to withstand and recover from future challenges.

Looking ahead, the next steps include conducting a preliminary risk assessment, developing a SWOT analysis, and drafting an initial action plan for Paphos as a tourism destination.

The project’s ultimate goal is to create a tailored Action Plan. This comprehensive plan will propose concrete steps to enhance the area's readiness and response mechanisms for future crises, while also improving overall governance and resilience in the tourism sector. The project’s completion will mark a significant milestone in strengthening Paphos as a tourist destination, as per the announcement.
