CUT Signs Academic Collaboration Protocol with Prestigious Zhejiang University

A New Educational and Research Partnership

The Cyprus Technological University (CTU) has recently signed a Collaboration Protocol with Zhejiang University, China, ranked among the top forty universities globally according to international rankings. The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday.

According to a CTU announcement, the protocol was signed in the presence of Liu Yantao, the Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus. Signing on behalf of CTU was the Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs, Professor Nikolaos Tsapatsoulis, and representing Zhejiang University was the Deputy Dean of the School of Fine Arts and Archaeology, Professor Hong Chen.

This Protocol specifically focuses on academic cooperation between CTU's School of Fine and Applied Arts and Zhejiang University's School of Fine Arts and Archaeology. It encompasses student exchanges between the two institutions and research collaboration in the fields of arts, multimedia, design, cultural heritage, and museology.

During the signing ceremony, held at CTU's Rectorate building, participation certificates were awarded to 30 students from Zhejiang University's Department of Archaeology. These students completed the "Winter Archaeology Project," an educational program hosted by CTU's School of Tourism Management, Hospitality, and Entrepreneurship in Paphos.

Strong Relations Between the Two Countries

The Chinese Ambassador, Liu Yantao, expressed his satisfaction with the signing of the Collaboration Protocol and congratulated the Zhejiang University students on completing the "Winter Archaeology Project." He also thanked CTU for its ongoing support and cooperation with Chinese universities, contributing to the further strengthening of the already strong relations between the two countries.

Welcoming the students from Zhejiang and the Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus, Professor Tsapatsoulis highlighted CTU's view of Chinese universities as potential strategic partners in research, innovation, and education. He also mentioned CTU's existing cooperation with Chinese universities, including exchange visits to implement joint actions in mutually interesting fields.

Additionally, he emphasized CTU's collaboration with Hangzhou Dianzi University (HDU), China, offering a joint postgraduate program in Electronic Science and Technology. Notably, a Confucius Institute has been established at CTU.

It is noteworthy that last July, thirty students from Hangzhou Dianzi University participated alongside CTU students in the first summer school operated at CTU under the Confucius Institute, which will soon start offering Chinese language courses.

Concluding, Dr. Tsapatsoulis expressed hope that the Collaboration Protocol with Zhejiang University will become yet another shining example of successful cooperation between academic institutions from Cyprus and China.
