10 Years of Impact at Frederick University's Robotics Academy

A Milestone for Robotics Education

Frederick University's Robotics Academy marked its tenth anniversary in December, celebrating with a series of events that began with a festive seminar. This included educational robotics workshops for children during the European Robotics Week and sessions informing parents about the Academy's activities and opportunities.

Established in 2013, the Robotics Academy, a Research and Educational Unit of Frederick University, was initiated to promote educational robotics, specifically as a learning tool. Over the past decade, the Academy has seen more than 12,000 students participate in its experiential robotics workshops, and over 1,200 educators have taken part in its educational training sessions. Additionally, more than 1,000 students from the Department of Education Sciences and the Department of Computer Science have attended robotics and educational robotics courses at the university.

Dr. Nikleia Eteokleous, Associate Professor in the Department of Education Sciences at Frederick University and Director of the Robotics Academy, stated that educational robotics plays a crucial role in developing skills necessary for modern society. She added, "Our educational robotics program offers unique experiences of discovery, creation, and learning. Through these experiences, students learn programming processes and creative utilization of technology in an environment that also encourages face-to-face social interaction."

The announcement highlighted the Academy's wide range of activities, including an after-school educational robotics program for children aged 5-15, school visits, other educational structure collaborations, and the annual summer school program 'Let’s get Tech!'.

In addition, the Academy offers training programs for educators and participates in educational and research projects in collaboration with the Pedagogical Institute and other research and educational centers in Cyprus and internationally.
