The largest local governance conference in Cyprus, Cyprus Forum Cities, is set to return for its second consecutive year in Limassol on April 18-19, 2024. This two-day forum features high-level discussions addressing holistic approaches to the development of municipalities and communities. Organized by Oxygen for Democracy, in collaboration with the Limassol Municipality and CUT, the event promises to be a significant gathering.

Cyprus Forum Cities brings together experts, technocrats from both public and private sectors, academics, and civil society members. The goal is to collaboratively design strategies for sustainable urban futures and shape modern, flexible local governance. This event marks the evolution of the 2040 series previously organized by Oxygono into a major local governance conference in Cyprus.

This year's edition will highlight crucial issues such as automation and electrification in transportation, local governance reforms, digital transformation, smart cities, waste management, circular economy, sustainable tourism development, and the housing crisis. It will also discuss the European Parliament's role in citizens' daily lives, the EU's impact on local governance, and the importance of youth participation in shaping European policies. Cyprus Forum Cities aims to provoke thought, spark discussions, and seek solutions for the challenges faced by Cyprus's urban and rural centers.

Nicolas Kyriakides, Vice-President of Oxygono's Board of Directors, commented on the upcoming forum, emphasizing: "In an era of climate crisis, economic interdependence, and global challenges, and especially in light of reforms and elections in local governance, it is imperative to find smart, sustainable local solutions that ease our daily lives and enhance our quality of life."
