Stelios Hatziioannou Donates €750,000 To UNICEF For Gaza Children
The Stelios Hatziioannou Charitable Foundation donated 750,000 euros through UNICEF UK for the urgent response needs by UNICEF for the children of Gaza.
As stated in a press release, this specific donation will help UNICEF provide ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) for 15,000 malnourished children in Gaza for one month.
"When we started discussing with UNICEF about how we could support the children in Gaza, which is geographically very close to my parents' homeland of Cyprus, I immediately realized the analogy between UNICEF's programs to help malnourished children in conflict areas around the world with our own program, 'Food from the Heart', in Greece and Cyprus, where we help those in need of food," said Sir Stelios.
Jon Sparkes, Executive Director of the United Kingdom Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK), stated in a release that "the donation from the Stelios Hatziioannou Charitable Foundation comes at a time when almost 8,000 children under 2 years old in Gaza are suffering from severe malnutrition, and it provides significant financial support for UNICEF's mission to provide assistance in treating 15,000 children suffering from food insecurity."
