Let’s Go Tree Planting for World Bee Day!

An Initiative to Create a “Bee Home” Aims to Facilitate Natural Pollination.

Bees are responsible for one-third of global food production and are perhaps, nature's most important pollinators. They are considered some of the hardest working creatures on the planet, but unfortunately, habitat loss, disease spread, and climate change have led to their population’s decline. Research on the effects of certain pesticides shows a decrease in the survival and reproductive capabilities of these amazing creatures.

Green Shield, through the “You Reforest Cyprus” program, in collaboration with the Mosfiloti Community Council and the Pancyprian Association of Beekeepers, is organising a major tree planting in Mosfiloti to set up a bee-friendly park.

At noon, in the vast area provided by the community, 2.000 trees, including pines, holm oaks, carobs, shrubs, lavenders, rosemary, and thyme will be planted to create a park named “The House of the Bee”, which will facilitate natural pollination.

This beautiful event is held on the occasion of World Bee Day. Certificates of participation and medals will be given to all children aged 12 and under who take part. Over the last four years, through the “You Reforest Cyprus” program with the help of volunteers, 50,000 seedlings have been planted across Cyprus. The Community Council will offer snacks, as well as, juice and water to all volunteers.
