Annual Decrease Of 9.6% In Total Vehicle Registrations In May
Significant Increase In Registrations During The First Five Months Of 2024 Compared To 2023
Total vehicle registrations in May 2024 dropped by 9.6%, reaching 4,292 compared to 4,747 in May 2023, according to the Statistical Service. However, there was a significant increase of over 22% in the first five months of 2024 compared to the same period last year.
Registrations of passenger saloon cars decreased by 14.5% to 3,325 from 3,888 in May 2023.
For the period of January-May 2024, the total number of registered vehicles increased by 22.1%, reaching 21,881 compared to 17,927 during the same period in 2023. The share of electric vehicles was 3.4% in 2024, and hybrid vehicles accounted for 37.3%.
Registrations of passenger saloon cars increased by 19.0%, reaching 17,176 compared to 14,434 during the same period in 2023. Out of the total passenger saloon cars, 7,374 or 42.9% were new, and 9,802 or 57.1% were used cars.
The number of rental cars specifically saw a decrease of 29.4% to 1,860, while the share of gasoline-powered saloon cars in this category decreased to 49.3% (from 60.8% in the same period of 2023), and the share of diesel-powered cars also decreased (from 10.6% in 2023 to 10.0% in 2024).
Conversely, the share of electric cars increased (from 2.1% in 2023 to 3.4% in 2024), as did the share of hybrid cars (from 26.6% to 37.3%).
Bus registrations decreased to 83 in the period of January-May 2024, from 115 in the same period of 2023, while registrations of cargo transport vehicles increased to 2,471 in the period of January-May 2024, compared to 1,733 in the corresponding period of 2023, marking a 42.6% increase.
Specifically, according to the Statistical Service, light trucks increased by 46.1% to 1,955, heavy trucks by 35.3% to 291, road tractors (trailers) by 70.4% to 92, and rental vehicles by 5.6% to 133.
Registrations of mopeds < 50cc increased to 381 in the period of January-May 2024, compared to 61 in the same period of 2023.
Registrations of motorcycles > 50cc increased by 7.7% to 1,479 in the period of January-May 2024, compared to 1,373 in the same period of 2023.
