The Meeting Will Be Attended by Education Ministers and Other High-Ranking Officials From Mediterranean EU Member States.
The MED9 Ministerial Meeting on the Mediterranean Strategy for Education for Sustainable Development and the UNECE Regional Meeting on "Education for Sustainable Development as a Means of Empowering Youth in Green Innovation and Entrepreneurship" will be held in Limassol on June 27-28, 2024.
The MED9 meeting, which will take place at the Park Lane Hotel, will be attended by the Ministers of Education and other high-ranking officials from the nine Mediterranean member states of the European Union. Meanwhile, the UNECE Regional Meeting will be attended by Ministers, high-level officials, and representatives from both the public and private sectors from 56 countries in the UNECE and Mediterranean regions.
Welcoming the participants, the Minister of Education, Sports, and Youth, Dr. Athina Michaelidou, stated in her message on the conference's website that this is the first forum organized in the UNECE region for ESD and youth, organized by the Republic of Cyprus, UNECE, the Swiss Government, and UNEP.
She also mentioned that as stakeholders in this significant period for sustainable education, representing 56 United Nations members and nine Mediterranean countries, "we are united by our common goal to promote education for sustainability, embodied by the forum's motto: 'Going Green.'"
She noted that at this critical juncture for humanity, where the urgent need to address environmental challenges has never been more pressing, we are driven by such a diverse forum dedicated to the cause of sustainability.
She added that our commitment to promoting environmental and sustainable development policies is not just a directive; it is a moral imperative to ensure the future of our planet for the next generations. A central element of our discussions at these forums will be the pivotal role of youth in guiding ESD policies for a sustainable future, she concluded.
