As summer holidays approach, Cypriots are already planning their getaways, with the Greek islands once again topping their preferences. The most popular destinations this year include Skiathos, Lefkada, Rhodes, Santorini, Crete, and Kos.

Brief spoke with Mr. Antonis Orthodoxou, the Spokesperson for the Association of Travel Agents, for more insights.

According to Mr. Orthodoxou, over 50% of Cypriots prefer the Greek islands, taking advantage of the ability to transport their cars by ferry. The main destinations chosen by Cypriots, as mentioned by Mr. Orthodoxou, are Skiathos, Lefkada, Rhodes, Santorini, Crete, and Kos.

Beyond the Greek islands, many Cypriots choose to travel to Spain and Portugal. Additionally, as every year, many opt for trips to Central Europe, Italy, and Paris. For destinations outside Europe, there is an increasing number of trips to India and Sri Lanka.

Moreover, there is a higher demand this year compared to last for the Greek island of Kos, as well as Spain and Portugal, due to the direct flight to Barcelona, making travel more convenient, as Mr. Orthodoxou mentioned.

Regarding prices compared to last year, there are some increases, although they are not significantly higher. "There are some increases, but it depends on the season; nothing has become prohibitively expensive. Prices are slightly higher but still within acceptable limits," concluded Mr. Orthodoxou. Additionally, interest in travel packages is rising.

However, Mr. Orthodoxou added, "People should trust their travel agents and book their holidays with their help because there is a guarantee that if something happens, the travel agent will be there to support and cover them."
