Public Transport: The 7 Bus Companies That Shared €75 Million in 2023

€750,000 Is Allocated for the Development of the Telematics System

In 2023, the Cypriot government distributed approximately €75 million to seven companies responsible for public passenger transport, with similar amounts expected for 2024.

According to Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades, in response to a parliamentary question from MP Valentin Fakontis, the funds were allocated as follows:

  • NPT – Nicosia Public Transport – €30.8 million
  • EMEL – Limassol Geographic Area Contractor – €14.2 million
  • LPT – Larnaca Public Transport – €11.7 million
  • OSEA – Famagusta Geographic Area Contractor – €10.2 million
  • OSYPA – Paphos Geographic Area Contractor – Intercity – Intercity Route Contractor – €7.6 million
  • Intercity – Intercity Route Contractor – €3.7 million
  • PEAL Tillyria – Tillyria Geographic Area Contractor – €470,000
€750,000 for Telematics System Upgrade

Additionally, the Minister of Transport, responding to a related query, stated that €750,000 is allocated for the development of the Telematics System.

Regarding its implementation, systems for Account-Based Ticketing, Student Service, and New Topology are expected to be completed by 2024.

The Minister noted that the migration of systems to the cloud and the repair of electronic signage systems at Solomou Square station have already been completed. By 2025, the Business Analytics Tool and the bank card payment acceptance system are expected to be finished.
