Google is in advanced talks to acquire cybersecurity company Wiz for $23 billion, according to a Wall Street Journal report citing sources familiar with the ongoing discussions.

Founded in 2020 and led by CEO Assaf Rappaport, Wiz has grown rapidly. Two months ago, the company achieved a market valuation of $12 billion. Wiz specializes in security technologies for cloud computing, a critical area for major corporations and essential for cybersecurity services, even for individual users.

If completed, this acquisition would be Google's largest to date, emphasizing its commitment to cybersecurity at a time when electronic systems, both governmental and organizational, face daily cyberattacks.

Google has made significant acquisitions in the past. The internet giant acquired cybersecurity firm Mandiant for $5.4 billion two years ago. However, the company faces ongoing scrutiny for potential antitrust violations and consumer protection regulations in the U.S. and Europe. The U.S. Department of Justice has sued Google twice on antitrust grounds.

Despite these challenges, the reported talks with Wiz indicate Google's ambitious plans for major mergers and acquisitions. Previously, Google was in discussions to acquire sales software maker Hubspot, as reported by CNBC, but this pursuit has reportedly slowed down, if not abandoned.
