Nikos Potamaris Elected President of CFA Society Cyprus

New Board Aims to Enhance Financial Literacy and Professional Standards

Nikos Potamaris was elected the new President of the CFA Society Cyprus during the General Assembly of its members held on July 15, 2024.

According to the Association's announcement, the new Board of Directors consists of seven members with extensive experience in the financial sector. Nikos Potamaris succeeds Andreas Cleanthous, while Konstantinos Kourougiannis was re-elected as Vice President.

The Board is completed by Natali Philippou (Secretary and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee), Evgeny Tarakanov (Treasurer), Jan-Hofmeyr Retief (University Relations and Equity Research Challenge Committee), Andreas Spyrides (Advocacy Committee), and Alexandros Klapas (Financial Literacy Committee).

Upon assuming his duties, the new President stated, "As the new Board, we will contribute our diverse knowledge and expertise to the continued strengthening and advancement of our Association."

"In the coming months, through a series of initiatives and actions, mainly via upcoming key events, we will seek to develop relationships and shared goals between the CFA Institute, our Association, local supervisory and other authorities, and universities," he said. He added that the Association will support current and prospective CFA Charterholders, as well as companies promoting the CFA Charter.

He also emphasized that their social contribution will be enhanced through efforts to combat financial illiteracy, primarily by educating secondary school students on relevant topics. The Association will provide training and practical experience to local university students in financial analysis and support them in finding employment.

"At the same time, we will strive to achieve diversity, equity, and inclusion goals in the financial sector's work environment, and to actively adopt a high-level code of ethics, continuous education, and professionalism for the benefit of the broader society," he concluded.
