Cypriot Shipping Pioneer Charalambos Mylonas Passes Away
A Key Figure in the Maritime Industry, Founder of Transmed Shipping, and Former President of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber
The Deputy Ministry of Shipping expressed deep sorrow over the death of Cypriot shipowner Charalambos Mylonas, founder of Transmed Shipping and a pioneer of Cypriot shipping, noting that "Charalambos Mylonas ranks among the most important pillars of Cypriot shipping."
In an official statement, the Ministry highlighted Mylonas' significant contribution to the development of the Cyprus shipping registry, leaving behind "a lasting legacy, an indelible mark, and invaluable service." The founding of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber in 1981, where he served as President for over two decades, as well as the drafting of the first collective agreement for seafarers on Cypriot ships, are key milestones bearing his personal imprint.
"On behalf of the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, we extend our deepest condolences to his wife Charikleia, his children Nicole, Katerina, and Elias, as well as his siblings and grandchildren," the statement continued, reiterating that "Charalambos Mylonas is considered one of the foremost pillars of Cypriot shipping."
President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides expressed his sorrow over the death of Charalambos N. Mylonas, describing him as a "pioneering Cypriot who excelled in the business world and honored his homeland abroad."
In a written statement, the President noted that shipowner Charalambos Mylonas was "one of the founding figures of Cypriot shipping, a distinguished member of the maritime community, and a founding member and former President of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber."
"On behalf of the Government and personally, I extend my sincere condolences to his family and the maritime community, of which the deceased was an active and distinguished member," the statement concluded.
