International Film Festival in Cyprus Opens Submissions for Feature Films
The Festival Will Take Place Between April 4-12, 2025, With Applications Accepted Until December 31, 2024.
According to an announcement by the Deputy Ministry of Culture and the Rialto Theatre, the Festival aims to expand its horizons within the geographic boundaries of Cyprus and attract the international film industry and global audiences. This is intended to make the festival a key meeting point for the three continents surrounding the island.
The 23rd edition of the Festival will be held from April 4-12, 2025, simultaneously in Nicosia and Limassol. Feature films produced in 2023, 2024, and 2025 are eligible. Submissions can be made via the platform https://filmfreeway.com/cyprusfilmdays by December 31, 2024.
Regarding the competition sections, the announcement first notes that the International Competition Section "Glocal Images" accepts films that highlight the characteristics of a local culture and approach issues of global concern in an innovative way.
It is added that the Independent International Jury will award a Best Film Prize, accompanied by an amount of €6,000, to be split equally between the Producer (€3,000) and the Director of the film (€3,000), a Special Jury Prize with an amount of €3,000, also split equally between the Producer (€1,500) and the Director (€1,500), a Best Director Award with an amount of €1,000, and a Best Cinematography Award with an amount of €500, sponsored by Caretta Films.
The announcement also states that the Jury may award up to three Honorary Mentions, which are not accompanied by a monetary prize.
As for the Cypriot Film Competition Section, it is mentioned that the National Competition Section accepts Cypriot films that meet the festival's terms and conditions, and they must fulfill the relevant criteria to be eligible.
It is noted that the Jury will award a Best Cypriot Film Prize, accompanied by an amount of €4,000, to be split equally between the Producer (€2,000) and the Director (€2,000), a Best Director Award accompanied by services, and a Best Performance Award accompanied by an amount of €500, sponsored by the Limassol Municipality.
For this category, the Jury may also award up to three Honorary Mentions, which are not accompanied by a monetary prize.
The selection of films competing in both sections (International and National) is made by the Festival's Artistic Directors, Argyro Nicolaou and Marios Lizides, the announcement concludes.
