International Conference on "Democracy and Cybersecurity in the Age of AI" Set for October 23, 2024

An international conference titled "Democracy and Cybersecurity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence" will take place on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the University of Cyprus (Amphitheater B108, A. Leventis Building). The conference is co-organized and co-funded by the University of Southern California (USC), the University of Cyprus, the CYENS Centre of Excellence, and the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence, and it is under the auspices of the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy of Cyprus.

Esteemed speakers from the U.S. and Cyprus will discuss crucial issues concerning cybersecurity, focusing on how artificial intelligence (AI) technologies impact disinformation threats and cyberattacks, and how critical infrastructure and databases can be safeguarded. Additionally, the role of AI in protecting government and public sector enterprises, as well as sectors like healthcare and technology, will be analyzed.

The conference will leverage the unique experience of the University of Southern California, which collaborates with all 50 U.S. states to secure American democracy. USC’s leading position in AI research and its applications in public services will be a focal point. The event will also draw on USC's global research in cybersecurity, as well as insights from past conferences held in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

The event is open to a broad audience, including academics, policymakers, election officials, and IT professionals. Citizens with an interest in the impact of AI and cybersecurity are also encouraged to attend. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange views on identifying and addressing cyber threats, fostering cooperation between Cyprus, the U.S., and the EU.
