€200 Million EIB Loan for Road Projects in Cyprus

The Council of Ministers approved on Thursday a proposal for a loan agreement of up to €200 million from the European Investment Bank (EIB). According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works, the funding will support significant road infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing sustainable urban mobility and developing road networks across Cyprus.
The loan will fund a multi-year infrastructure investment program, including the construction and upgrading of roads, projects aligned with Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP), road safety improvements, network management, enhanced connectivity, and measures to increase resilience and adaptation to climate change.
Key projects include:

Construction of the Nicosia-Troodos highway (Astromeritis–Evrychou section, Phase D).

Construction of the Nicosia–Palaichori highway (Anayia–Kalo Chorio section).

Development of the Nicosia-Troodos highway (Akaki–Peristerona section, Phase C1).

The Nicosia ring road project.
The Ministry emphasized that this loan is part of the government's policy framework, "Investing in the Future," highlighting its commitment to supporting projects that improve road management, safety, and climate change adaptation.
"This policy reflects the government’s strategy for the ongoing development of infrastructure, benefiting citizens and ensuring the prosperity of society as a whole," the Ministry's statement concluded.
