Ten New Fast-Charging Stations in Cyprus: Where Will They Be Installed?

By 2025, EV drivers can access convenient 100 kW chargers in hospitals, tourist sites, and public spaces.

A major step toward expanding electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in Cyprus has been achieved with the planned installation of ten fast-charging stations in public areas, set to begin operation by 2025. These stations will be located in hospital parking lots, near museums and other sites of cultural interest, offering convenient access for EV owners across the island.

According to Minister of Transport Alexis Vafeadis, the tender for supplying, installing, maintaining, and operating these ten charging stations was awarded to a successful bidder at the end of last year. The decision came after the Review Authority for Public Procurement dismissed a challenge from a second bidder, allowing the contract to be granted on November 4, 2024. The tender was originally launched on January 29, 2024, by the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Services.

Each station will have a capacity of 100 kW and be capable of charging two vehicles simultaneously. The overall budget for this initiative is estimated at €1,040,000 (including VAT), co-funded by the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility. Under the contract terms, the stations must be delivered and installed within six months of signing, while maintenance and operational services will extend five years from the date each station is put into service.

The sites chosen include public parking areas at Nicosia General Hospital, near the Larnaca Mall and General Hospital, the Choirokoitia Archaeological Site, the Famagusta General Hospital, Limassol General Hospital, and various spots in the Troodos region. Additional locations span Paphos—specifically near the Tombs of the Kings Avenue—and Polis Chrysochous.
