2025 Oscar Nominations Announced: "Emilia Pérez" Leads with 13 Nods
Top Contenders Include The Brutalist, Wicked, and A Complete Unknown
After delays caused by Los Angeles wildfires, the 2025 Oscar nominations were finally revealed on January 23, 2025. The announcement, hosted by Bowen Yang (Wicked, Saturday Night Live) and Rachel Sennott (Saturday Night, Bottoms), highlighted the year's most notable films and performances.
Topping the list is Emilia Pérez, a musical about a drug baroness undergoing gender-affirmation surgery, earning an impressive 13 nominations. Close behind are The Brutalist, a historical immigrant epic, and Wicked, the film adaptation of the Broadway sensation, both with 10 nominations.
Other notable contenders include Conclave, a thriller about the election of a new Pope, and A Complete Unknown, which explores Bob Dylan’s early years, each receiving eight nominations.
These films, along with Anora, Nickel Boys, I’m Still Here, The Substance, and Dune: Part Two, will compete for Best Picture at the 97th Academy Awards.

Best Actor: Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown) earned a nomination for his portrayal of Bob Dylan, competing against Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), and Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice).

Best Actress: Demi Moore (The Substance) made a strong return with a nomination, joined by Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora), and Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here). Gascón made history as the first transgender actress to be nominated in this category.
