Old GSP Stadium: Revitalization Will Be Completed by April

A Historic Landmark Transformed into a Green Space with Modern Facilities

The revitalization of the Old GSP Stadium in Nicosia has entered its final phase, according to Deputy Mayor of Nicosia, Mr. Chrysanthos Fakas, in a statement to Offsite News. Mr. Fakas revealed that while construction is essentially complete, several "final touches" remain before the project is fully delivered. He added that the contractor is expected to hand over the site soon, though no exact date has been set. The project is estimated to be ready in 1-2 months.

Mr. Fakas described the redevelopment of the Old GSP Stadium as one of the most significant projects undertaken by the Municipality of Nicosia. He reminded that the initiative was the result of a referendum among Nicosians, who overwhelmingly supported the creation of a green space in the area.

The site now includes two underground parking levels with a total capacity of 554 spaces. Above ground, a visitor-friendly gathering space has been developed.

The project also features two artificial hills planted with natural and native Cypriot vegetation, a central amphitheater, and dedicated cycling and walking paths. Along Evagorou Avenue, commercial spaces have been created to provide services for visitors.

The redevelopment of the Old GSP Stadium is part of a broader strategic plan. It will be connected to other key urban revitalization projects, including the redevelopment of the commercial triangle, Stasikratous Street, Makarios Avenue, Eleftheria Square, and the historic walled city of Nicosia.

In conclusion, Mr. Fakas emphasized the symbolic and historical significance of the Old GSP Stadium for Nicosia. The site holds a special place in the memories of older generations, as it was the setting for many important events in the city's past.
