Savvas, a film director, writer, and producer, studied Fine Art in Greece before earning a master's degree in directing in Los Angeles. His work delves into themes of identity, family, and psychological depth, reflecting the emotions and struggles of real life. Beyond filmmaking, Savvas is actively involved in promoting artistic expression among young creators. His collaboration with Youth Tech Festival includes organizing film festivals focused on music videos, fashion, and dance. He also emphasizes that a stronger presence of the arts in schools could help combat issues like bullying by fostering empathy and communication.

Despite the growing artistic community in Cyprus, Savvas highlights several barriers to the industry’s growth. Funding remains limited, with grants often restricted to projects focusing on Cypriot history and culture, leaving little room for diverse storytelling. Additionally, he points out the lack of structured casting processes in the local industry, with roles often going to personal connections rather than being selected through open auditions.

Savvas also criticizes the tendency to prioritize foreign filmmakers over local talent, despite Cyprus having many skilled artists. He argues that increased support for homegrown creators would help build a stronger, more dynamic industry.

One of Savas’s recent projects was an art video dedicated to Iranian women, aiming to raise awareness about their struggles. Inspired by a close friend from Iran, he felt compelled to use his platform to make a statement. The video quickly gained traction online, amassing half a million views and thousands of comments. For Savvas, this reaffirmed the power of art to spark conversations and inspire change

For aspiring filmmakers and artists in Cyprus, Savvas has one key message: just create. He encourages young creatives to push past the fear of judgment and start making content, emphasizing that every project—even imperfect ones—are stepping stones toward improvement.
