Trial on Naturalization Case Faces Repeated Delays

Proceedings Delayed Due to Key Witness Developments

The trial concerning the naturalization case linked to the Al Jazeera documentary will resume on February 24 before the Nicosia Criminal Court following a postponement requested by the Prosecution.

During today's hearing, the Prosecution requested a new trial date due to recent developments involving a witness residing in the United Kingdom who was scheduled to testify via video conference. It was noted that these developments also impacted the video conferencing process.

The Prosecution’s representative informed the court that unforeseen circumstances had arisen regarding this key witness. To avoid further delays, the Prosecution will present its case at the next scheduled hearing.

It was further stated that the Prosecution expects to call around 10 to 12 witnesses and does not anticipate submitting additional evidence.

The President of the Criminal Court scheduled the next hearings for February 24 at 10:30 AM and February 28 at 9:30 AM.
