Antonio Guterres to Hold Bilateral Talks and Expanded Meeting with Delegations
The United Nations, in an unofficial memo outlining the agenda for the two-day meeting on Cyprus in Geneva, stated that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will host a dinner for delegation heads, conduct bilateral meetings, and lead an expanded meeting with both delegations on the second day.
The memo refers to the informal Cyprus meeting scheduled to take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on March 17-18, 2025. According to the document, "The Secretary-General will host a dinner at the Intercontinental Hotel on March 17 at 7:00 p.m. to welcome the Heads of Delegations." The dinner will follow a "Head of Delegation plus one" format. Guterres will personally greet the delegation leaders, and there will also be an opportunity for photographs with him.
On the following day, Guterres plans to hold bilateral meetings in the morning of March 18, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Intercontinental Hotel. According to the memo, the format for these bilateral discussions with the Secretary-General will be "Head of Delegation plus five." Photos will be taken as he welcomes each delegation.
The expanded meeting is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Palais des Nations. Before the session, there will be another opportunity for group photographs. The meeting is scheduled to conclude at 2:30 p.m. and will follow the "Head of Delegation plus five" format.
During the meeting, Guterres will deliver an opening statement, followed by remarks from the delegation leaders.
The memo also notes that each delegation is "encouraged to ensure significant inclusion of women participants in their delegations."
