Cyprus Talks: Geneva Meeting Concludes Today – Key Events on the Agenda

UN-Led Informal Cyprus Meeting Concludes in Geneva with Bilateral Talks and Plenary Session

The Informal Expanded Meeting on the Cyprus Issue continues and concludes today in Geneva, with a series of bilateral meetings between the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and each delegation, followed by a plenary session.

This morning, President Nikos Christodoulides will hold a bilateral meeting at 9:40 a.m. (10:40 a.m. Cyprus time) with UK Minister for Europe Stephen Doughty. At 10:45 a.m., he will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who will also hold separate meetings with other conference participants.

Accompanying President Christodoulides at the bilateral meeting will be:

  • Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos
  • Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna
  • Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis
  • Greek Cypriot Negotiator Menelaos Menelaou
  • National Security Advisor Tasos Tzionis

The plenary session will take place at the Palais des Nations from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Cyprus time), marking the final phase of the informal meeting.

President Christodoulides will be accompanied by:

  • Menelaos Menelaou (Greek Cypriot Negotiator)
  • Konstantinos Letymbiotis (Government Spokesperson)
  • Marilena Raouna (Deputy Minister for European Affairs)
  • Mary-Ann Stavrinidou (Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus)

At the conclusion of the plenary session, the Informal Expanded Meeting on the Cyprus Issue will officially end.

Briefing the European Council on the Geneva Talks

Following the meeting in Geneva, President Christodoulides will travel to Brussels on Tuesday evening, where both he and UN Secretary-General António Guterres will brief the European Council on the outcomes of the discussions.

The European Council summit, scheduled for March 20-21, will include a working lunch on Thursday, March 20, where EU leaders will meet with UN Secretary-General Guterres to discuss key international developments, including the Cyprus issue.
