Where a New 2.9 km Bicycle Path Is Being Built in Nicosia – To Be Completed by 2026
€3.1 Million Project Aims to Enhance Urban Mobility by 2026
An agreement for the construction of a bicycle and pedestrian path along Kalamon / Glafkos Clerides Avenue in the municipalities of Geri, Aglantzia, and Latsia was signed between the Public Works Department and the joint venture A.&C. Angeli Construction Ltd & Midsign Cyprus Ltd J/V.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Transport, the project includes the construction of a cycling and walking path on the northern side of Kalamon / Glafkos Clerides Avenue. It will extend from the junction leading to Athalassa National Park to the junction with Athalassas Avenue, which leads to Geri, covering a length of approximately 2.9 km.
The project also involves extending the existing sidewalk on the eastern side of Kantaras Street in Latsia—from its intersection with Kalamon Avenue to the existing footpath near Argolidos Street. Additional works include the creation of an urban equipment lane with tree planting, urban furnishings, pedestrian crossings, road lighting, horizontal road markings, a stormwater drainage system, and utility service works.
All infrastructure will be designed to accommodate persons with disabilities, pedestrians, and cyclists, contributing to the improvement of the urban environment and ensuring safer and more pleasant mobility.
The contract was awarded through a public tender process to the successful bidder at a cost of €3,126,000 (excluding VAT). The project is scheduled for completion within 18 months and is expected to be finished by autumn 2026.
The project is funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU, through the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
