Passenger traffic in April 2025 exceeded the 1 million milestone for the first time, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works. The Ministry noted a 20.66% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Additionally, the January–April period continues to record the highest ever cumulative passenger traffic, with an 11.83% rise compared to 2024.

“The April 2025 results, which for the first time saw passenger numbers at Larnaca and Paphos airports surpass one million, are the result of coordinated efforts by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works, Hermes Airports Ltd, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, and all stakeholders in the tourism industry. These results confirm that the strategy to extend the tourism season is bearing fruit, delivering tangible outcomes and benefits already this year,” the Ministry stated.

According to the Ministry, passenger volume at Larnaca Airport increased by 23.05%, while Paphos Airport saw a 15.51% rise compared to April 2024.

With the United Kingdom, Greece, Israel, Poland, and Germany identified as the main markets, aircraft movements rose by 12.68% compared to 2024, reaching 8,756 flights.

The highest absolute increases at Larnaca Airport were observed in routes to and from Israel, the United Kingdom, Greece, Poland, and Armenia. At Paphos Airport, traffic rose on routes with Israel, the United Kingdom, Jordan, Poland, and Germany.

In contrast, the largest declines at Larnaca Airport were seen in flights from Finland, Belgium, Jordan, Lithuania, and Estonia. For Paphos Airport, the decreases came from France, Estonia, Slovakia, Greece, and Romania.

Unemployment Falls by 13.1% in April

Meanwhile, unemployment saw an annual decrease of 13.1% in April.

According to the Statistical Service, based on data maintained by the District Labour Offices, the number of registered unemployed individuals stood at 8,118 at the end of April 2025.

Based on seasonally adjusted data, which reflect the trend in unemployment, the number of registered unemployed in April 2025 fell to 9,655 from 10,035 the previous month.

Compared to April 2024, the number of unemployed decreased by 1,225 people, or 13.1%. This drop is mainly attributed to reductions in the sectors of financial and insurance activities, construction, trade, accommodation and food service activities, as well as a decline among new entrants to the labour market.
