Cyprus Awards €2.85M Sustainable Mobility Project Contract for Limassol
Phase B of Limassol’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan includes new bus lanes, bike infrastructure, and pedestrian upgrades.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, through the Public Works Department, announced that on May 12, 2025, a contract was signed for the project: “Priority Projects of Limassol’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), Phase B – Bus Lanes South of Troodos Roundabout and Cycling Infrastructure Works.”
The contract was signed on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus by the Director of the Public Works Department, Mr. Eleftherios Eleftheriou, and on behalf of the contractor, Cyfield Construction Limited, by the company’s authorised signatory, Ms. Despoina Chrysochou.
The project promotes public transport and multimodality by improving the connectivity of Limassol’s urban cores through the redesign of key road corridors under the city's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP).
The works covered under Phase B, as detailed in the tender documents, include:

Resurfacing road pavements

Constructing bus lanes and bus stop infrastructure

Building cycle lanes and related cycling facilities

Creating on-street parking

Constructing and reconstructing sidewalks

Installing signal-controlled pedestrian and cyclist crossings (Pelican and Zebra types)

Installing new or upgrading existing traffic lights

Applying horizontal and vertical signage

And related infrastructure works
The contract was awarded following an open tender procedure. The total contract value is €2,855,000 (excluding VAT), and the project is scheduled for completion within nine months.
The project is funded under the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Plan, intervention code: C2.2I1, titled “Implementation of Sustainable Urban Mobility Projects (SUMP) and accessibility-enhancing measures.”
