Alexandros Iosifidis Appointed as the Next General Director of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber
Iosifidis Succeeds Thomas A. Kazakos
The Cyprus Shipping Chamber is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has unanimously decided to appoint the current Deputy General Director and Technical Director, Mr. Alexandros Iosifidis, as its next General Director. Mr. Iosifidis will succeed Mr. Thomas A. Kazakos, who will assume the role of Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping in London, effective April 1, 2025.
This year marks Mr. Iosifidis’ 30th anniversary of service at the Chamber. He holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began his career as a Mechanical Engineer in 1986, working in the United States, Cyprus, and Libya. In 1992, he joined the Cyprus Classification Society, where he trained as a ship inspector. In 2015, following a proposal by the Cyprus Shipping Administration to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), he was appointed by the IMO as Cyprus’ “Maritime Goodwill Ambassador,” tasked with promoting maritime and seafaring professions among young people—a title he continues to hold.
Mr. Iosifidis expressed his gratitude for the appointment, stating: “I am deeply honored by the trust the Board of Directors has placed in me to serve as the next General Director of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber. As I mark 30 years of service at the Chamber, I am committed to building on the significant achievements already accomplished, actively advancing the interests of Cypriot shipping, and maintaining the vital role of our sector on the global stage. I look forward to continuing the close collaboration with the Board of Directors, our Members, and our Partners to tackle challenges and seize the opportunities ahead.”
