Bi-Communal Research Project “InPeace: Inclusive Peacebuilding” Organised Launch Event
The InPeace: Inclusive Peacebuilding project which is funded by the European Union under the Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community and implemented by the Interdisciplinary Centre for Law, Alternative and Innovative Methods (ICLAIM) and the Human Rights Platform (HRP) organised a launch event on Thursday, June 8.
InPeace is a three-year project which focuses on twelve bi-communal Technical Committees working on different areas that were established by the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot community leaders to ‘address issues that affect the day-to-day life of people, through encouraging and facilitating greater interaction and understanding between the two communities’.
The launch took place at Home for Cooperation on Thursday, June 8, with approximately 50 guests in attendance. The opening speech was delivered by Stefan Simosas, Head of Cooperation, Cyprus Settlement Support Unit of the European Commission. Mr Simosas mentioned how important this bi-communal research project is for the people of Cyprus. After Mr Simosas, Prof Stéphanie Laulhé Shaelou, Founding Member and Director of ICLAIM and Ms Emete Imge, President of the Board of the Human Rights Platform introduced the two co-applicant organisations.
Finally, Project Coordinator, Dr Nasia Hadjigeorgiou, discussed the objectives of the project and the research methodology that will be adopted in the project, while Project Assistant Fezile Osum elaborated on the ways in which the project results will be disseminated and how the project is expected to have a wider impact to the two Cypriot communities. The event ended with a cocktail party, during which guests had the opportunity to discuss the project in a more informal setting.
