The Centre of Excellence biobank.cy of the University of Cyprus announces the establishment of its new Academic Council and the appointment of Dr Stavros Gravas as Deputy Director. These strategic moves strengthen the Centre’s commitment to advancing biomedical research, supporting innovation, and fostering closer collaboration across scientific disciplines.

The new Academic Council will oversee the Centre’s operations and contribute to setting its research priorities, facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhancing its contribution to biomedical research. It is composed of distinguished academics who enjoy wide recognition for their research and teaching work, specifically the following members:

– Dr Stavros Gravas: Professor of Urology at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus. He also works at the Urology Clinic of Nicosia General Hospital.

– Dr Georgios Hatzigeorgiou: Professor of Neurology and Associate Dean of the Medical School of the University of Cyprus, Scientific and Clinical Head of the Neurology Clinic at Nicosia General Hospital.

– Dr Fofi Konstantinidou: Professor of Language Disorders and Clinical Neuropsychology at the Department of Psychology of the University of Cyprus, Director of the Centre for Applied Neuroscience.

– Dr Paris Skourides: Professor at the Department of Biological Sciences of the University of Cyprus, Head of the “Developmental Biology and Stem Cells for Biomedical Research Laboratory” of the University of Cyprus.

– Dr Nikola Dietis: Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus.

– Dr Anneza Yiannourou: Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus, Academic Lead of the Breast Centre at Nicosia General Hospital.

Dr Stavros Gravas, Professor of Urology at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus and physician at the Urology Clinic of Nicosia General Hospital, has assumed the duties of Deputy Director as of September. He is the Secretary General of the Société Internationale d’Urologie (SIU) and has served as Chair of the European Association of Urology (EAU) Guidelines Panel for male LUTS/BPO. He is also a founding member of the Clinical Research Office of the Endourological Society, representing Europe.

The Centre of Excellence biobank.cy remains committed to its mission to generate new knowledge for the improvement of human health and to contribute to the prevention, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of diseases. The establishment of the new Academic Council, combined with the appointment of the Deputy Director, further strengthens the Centre’s capacity to produce meaningful research outcomes for public health.
