Cypriot Professor Honored with 2024 ASA Fellowship
University of Cyprus Professor Recognized for Contributions to Time Series Analysis
Constantinos Fokianos, Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Cyprus, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 American Statistical Association (ASA) Fellowship.
According to an announcement by the University of Cyprus, the award ceremony took place during the Joint Statistical Meetings 2024 in Portland, USA, one of the largest statistical conferences globally. "The ASA Fellowship has been a significant honor for nearly 100 years and reflects the recipient’s notable contributions to advancing knowledge and practice in statistics," the statement highlighted.
It was emphasized that Professor Fokianos was awarded the fellowship "for his outstanding contributions to time series analysis methodology, particularly for theoretical and computational approaches to the analysis of univariate and multivariate integer-valued time series, his exceptional teaching, mentoring of young researchers, and his significant contributions to the profession."
Professor Fokianos completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Ioannina and pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Maryland, USA. He currently teaches at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Cyprus, where he also serves as Department Chair.
The American Statistical Association is the largest community of statisticians globally and the second oldest professional association in the United States. Since its founding in Boston in 1839, the ASA has promoted excellence in the development, application, and dissemination of statistical science.
