Michalis Vorkas, the newly-elected President of the Cyprus Bar Association, has emphasized that addressing case adjudication delays will be among the top priorities of the new Board. Speaking to KYPE, Vorkas also highlighted a range of other pressing issues on the association's agenda.

The new Board, keenly aware of the significant responsibility conferred by the recent election results, is determined to address the serious challenges plaguing the justice system. "A feasible solution might be the recruitment of new judges, a consideration already underway by the Supreme Court," Vorkas noted.

Another core focus is the effective implementation of court decisions. Vorkas stated, "A court decision, no matter how sound, loses its impact if not executed efficiently and in a timely manner."

Furthermore, Vorkas underscored the ongoing legal reforms, including the introduction of new Civil Procedure rules, implemented from September 1st. "After many years, we have introduced innovative procedural changes that lawyers must adapt to through practical training. We also need to assess aspects of these changes that might require modifications or possible suspensions, ensuring that lawyers can serve their clients and the justice system more efficiently," he concluded.
