Stavros Stavrou Elected as New President of CCCI
Leadership Transition and Board Restructuring for 2023-2026
Stavros Stavrou has been elected as the new President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) for the 2023-2026 term. This announcement follows the conclusion of yesterday's election vote count during the Chamber's General Assembly.
Previously, Stavrou presided over the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce. His candidacy for the CCCI presidency was contested by Andreas Dimitriadis, the outgoing vice-president of the Chamber.
Succeeding Christodoulos Agkastiniotis, who completed a six-year term, Mr. Stavrou steps into the role with a fresh perspective.
The newly formed CCCI Board features a blend of experienced and new faces: Stavros Stavrou as President, Zenon Apostolou as Vice-President of Commerce, Kostas Zorbas as Vice-President of Industry, Avgoustinos Papathomopoulos as Vice-President of Services, Kostas Galatariotis as Vice-President of Tourism, and Andreas Dimitriadis as Vice-President of Finance.
Reflecting on his six-year tenure, the departing President, Christodoulos E. Agkastiniotis, shared his heartfelt emotions and pride over the accomplishments achieved under his leadership. He declared the CCCI as his second home and vowed to continue supporting the organization.
Stavros Stavrou was born in Alambra in 1959. He attended the English School in Nicosia and later served in the National Guard. He holds a BA (Hons 1st class) in Accounting and Finance from Middlesex Polytechnic.
In 1985, while working at Moore Stephens in London (1983-1986), Stavrou was accepted as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus and the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (UK and Ireland). In 2013, he was awarded the Non-Executive Director Diploma by the "Financial Times" in London.
From 1987 to 2010, he served in various senior positions at the International Group of Companies Oilinvest BV (Netherlands, based in Monaco), including as the group's Financial Director (1993-2003) and Managing Director (2003-2010). The group specializes in oil refining and trading. On August 23, 2012, following a recommendation from the Parliamentary Economic Committee, he was appointed by the Council of Ministers as the chairman of the Board of Directors of Cyprus Airways.
In 2013, Mr. Stavrou was part of the negotiating team for the Republic of Cyprus in discussions with international consortia regarding the allocation of hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation rights.
He also served as the First Vice-President of the Cyprus National Hydrocarbons Company Ltd (CHC). Mr. Stavrou is fluent in Greek and English. He is married and the father of two children.
