Revamping the Roadways: Upcoming Transformations on Cyprus Highways
The Department of Public Works announced that road works will be carried out on highways in the districts of Nicosia, Larnaca, and Limassol during the months of July, August, and September.
According to the announcement by the Department of Public Works of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works and the Larnaca District Engineer, maintenance works such as pruning, grass cutting, and plant watering will take place on the shoulders of the Larnaca Airport - Rizoelia - Airport highway, including the triangles and interchanges of Kalo Chorio and Rizoelia, and the Kalo Chorio - Kofinou - Kalo Chorio interchange in the Larnaca District by the Forestry Department. The works will be carried out between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM on weekdays, excluding weekends and Fridays.
During construction, sections of the embankment on the highway from Larnaca Airport to the roundabout at Rizoelia and on the Kalo Chorio - Kofinou highway (in both directions) will be closed partially for a length of approximately 100 meters per lane.
More roadworks are planned for Sunday, July 16, 2023, from 5:30 AM to 6:30 AM. Cable pulling works for Electronic Communication Services will be conducted on the Nicosia - Kokkinotrimithia highway, from the Archangelos Roundabout to the exit to Alexandrou Panagoulis Street.
When construction will be underway, the exit from the Archangelos Roundabout to the Kokkinotrimithia highway will be closed, and traffic will be redirected through Morfou and Heron Avenues.
Additionally, as part of the construction of the road network of the Vasiliko Energy Center, construction works of the adjacent roundabout will take place on the Zygi - Mari road, near the Vasiliko River, from July 14 to August 4, 2023. One lane will be closed for traffic, and traffic will be regulated with traffic lights, while the movement of vehicles and pedestrians on adjacent roads and residences will be adjusted accordingly.
The Limassol District Engineer's Office, Department of Public Works, Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works, also announced that on the weekend of July 15 and 16, between 3:30 AM and 6:00 PM, construction works of a water collection system near the underground pedestrian crossing, carried out by a private contractor, will take place on the Limassol - Paphos highway, near the Ypsonas - Kouri exit, in both directions.
Sections of the fast lane in both directions, approximately 500 meters long, will be intermittently closed, and traffic will be diverted to the slow lane while road improvements are being conducted. Additionally, the underground pedestrian crossing will be closed during the same period.
Starting from July 17, a new vehicle height recognition system will be operational before the bridges at the Rizoelia roundabout and on both directions of the Larnaca Airport - Ayia Napa highway.
The Department of Public Works urges the public to comply with the system's instructions in the case of tall vehicles and to use the roundabout instead of the underpass.
From July 17 to 19, reflector cleaning works will be carried out on highways and on Griva Digeni and Spyrou Kyprianou Avenues. Specifically, on Monday, July 17, the works will take place on the Nicosia - Larnaca highway (A2), on Tuesday, July 18, on the Nicosia - Larnaca highway (A1), and on Wednesday, July 19, on Georgiou Griva Digeni Street, from Themistokli Dervi Street to the Kolokassidis interchange, and on Spyrou Kyprianou Street, from Tsiriou Avenue to "Fota Orphanidi."
The highway constructions will be conducted from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
The Department of Public Works apologizes for the unavoidable inconvenience that will be caused and urges the public to show understanding and comply with the temporary road signage and the instructions of the Police.
