The World Keeps Changing, What About Us?

Ways to Improve Our Communication and Behaviour in 2026.

The rapid advance of technology and how it shifts the world around us has been a matter of multiple debates ever since the turn of the century. However, sometimes change needs to come from within for it to be effective.

Let’s face it; most of us tend to develop and maintain certain unhealthy habits which we either don’t recognize as unhealthy or we do, but have a hard time getting rid of them.

By simply paying attention and making a conscious effort to make a few small adjustments in our everyday lives, we make a huge step towards treating ourselves and those around us more positively in search of a more peaceful year in 2026.

Setting Up Unnecessary Meetings

‘This could have been an email.’

A highly relatable thought that has crossed everyone’s thoughts at least once during their professional career. Many modern companies have a policy that encourages constant, direct communication which often materializes in the form of the dreaded Monday morning meeting.

While meetings (whether physical or virtual) are definitely necessary for effective coordination within any organization, it is fair to say that not all of them bring any meaningful change.

On the contrary, quite often they may even derail your entire schedule and concentration levels, ultimately having the inverse effect of its actual purpose.

So, the next time you find yourself itching to schedule a meeting, ask yourself whether an email would suffice. Trust us, your colleagues will appreciate you greatly.

Taking the Initiative

As people grow older, their friend circles tend to gradually shrink. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, it isn’t always something that happens through choice. The suffocating tempo of modern life, combined with the always increasing demands of adulthood, oftentimes have an alienating effect on people. Especially in modern metropolitan areas where meeting up requires prior plans.

Instead of letting routine and responsibilities dictate your program and slowly replacing people you’d rather keep in your life, be the master of your own time, by simply reaching out on a more frequent basis.

Even a simple text or call goes a long way to let the other person know you still think about them.

Invalidating the Feelings of Others

Communication between people has never been a straightforward affair, with many of us falling victims to everyday traps without even realizing it. One of the most common ones is that of discrediting the concerns of the people around us.

‘It’s not as bad as you think.’ ‘It’s all in your head.’ ‘Others have it worse.’

Seemingly innocent notions with genuinely pure intentions aiming to relieve a burden off a friend’s shoulders can end up making them feel like they are not heard or seen by their closest people.

In such occasions, it is usually better to recognise their issue and offer solutions or alternatives. If you’re unable to do so, you can always offer an understanding nod and a few kind words. It really is that simple.

Taking the time to appreciate those you love and to help them feel seen can change their whole outlook on the situation they may find themselves in.

Small Changes that Can Make a Difference

In this overly complex and volatile time in the world, every positive act can have a significant impact on the world around us. Instead of simply going through the motions day after day, consider doing some introspection, to identify any patterns in your behavior that you may need to ditch in 2026. Greatness is achievable through small beginnings.
