Critical Plenary of Informal Cyprus Talks Underway in Geneva

UN-Led Plenary Session Brings Together Key Stakeholders for Discussions

The plenary session of the informal expanded meeting on the Cyprus issue is currently underway in Geneva.

The session, which commenced at 13:00 Cyprus time, is expected to last approximately three hours.

According to the agenda, the plenary began with opening statements from the heads of delegations, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides, Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, the Foreign Ministers of Greece and Turkey, and the UK’s Minister for Europe. A discussion is set to follow.

President Christodoulides is accompanied at the plenary by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, Greek Cypriot Negotiator Menelaos Menelaou, Attorney General Mary Ann Stavrinidou, and legal expert Achilleas Emilianides.

Representing the United Nations, alongside Secretary-General Guterres, are UN Deputy Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Cyprus Colin Stewart, and Director-General of the UN Office in Geneva Tatiana Valovaya.
