Cyprus Approves Breastfeeding and Milk Expression Rooms in Workplaces and Public Spaces

New regulations set standards for facilities supporting breastfeeding, pumping, and milk storage.

The Plenary of the Cyprus Parliament unanimously approved on Thursday the regulatory framework for the establishment of breastfeeding, milk expression, and storage rooms in workplaces and public spaces. The move is part of the implementation of the Law on the Promotion and Protection of Breastfeeding.

The regulations, drafted by the Ministry of Health, define the minimum technical and operational requirements needed to ensure the creation of suitable facilities that support mothers in exercising their right to breastfeed or to express and store breast milk.

The framework also includes provisions for determining the number and suitability of such spaces based on the size and use of each building.
