Education Ministry Blames Media After Scathing Auditor Report Exposes Missteps
Education Ministry Responds to Audit Report, Cites Misleading Media Coverage
The Technical Services of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth have issued a statement criticizing what they describe as a one-sided presentation of the findings of the Auditor General’s Special Report. They argue that recent media coverage selectively isolates excerpts from the Report in a way that misleads and misinforms public opinion.
The Ministry has made public its official response, which, it notes, is attached as an annex to the Auditor General’s Report.
The Ministry’s Technical Services state that they “disagree with most of the audit’s findings, particularly regarding the interpretation and implementation of the relevant legislation.”
“The Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth provided detailed responses to each finding of the investigation. These responses were published in full in Annex IV of the Special Report, yet they have not been mentioned in the media coverage,” the statement continues.
According to the Ministry, the press articles “deliberately isolate passages from the Report in a way that misleads and distracts public opinion.” As a result, the statement says, “there has been a unilateral presentation of the Auditor General’s findings, without corresponding reference to the Ministry’s responses, which were included in the same document.”
