A Deadline Has Been Set for the Ministry of Finance to Bring Its Final Thoughts on the Matter by the End of March

The Parliamentary Committee on Internal Affairs has set a deadline until the end of March for the relevant state authorities to submit a comprehensive plan for the utilization of the State Exhibition space in Engomi. This decision was made at the Committee's meeting held on Thursday.

Post-meeting statements from the MPs highlighted the necessity of taking into serious consideration both the desires of the local residents and the state's needs in planning the development of the Exhibition space.

Aristos Damianou, the Chairman of the Internal Affairs Committee and a Member of Parliament for AKEL, described the State Exhibition area as a desolate space. He emphasized the need for a plan to utilize it effectively. Damianou also stressed the importance of balancing economic development with environmental respect, advocating for sustainable development. Focusing specifically on Nicosia, Mr. Damianou mentioned the potential traffic burden that must be considered in these plans.

Nikos Sykas, a Member of Parliament for DISY, pointed out the need for the responsible Ministries and the Government to redefine what should actually be done in this specific area. "The Government is obligated to come forward with a concrete proposal, taking into account the concerns of the local residents, the existing land uses, as well as issues related to traffic problems and sustainable urban mobility," he indicated. He mentioned that a deadline has been set for the Ministry of Finance to bring its final thoughts on the matter by the end of March.

Marinos Mousiouttas, a Member of Parliament for DIPA, expressed his belief in the need for a master plan, considering that the Municipality of Engomi will soon be part of the Municipality of Nicosia. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive re-examination of the issue to consider both the desires of the residents and the needs of the state.
