Kyriakos Mitsotakis: "Aiming for a Strong Business Hub in Southeastern Europe"
Greece and Cyprus Work to Deepen Economic Ties and Create a Regional Powerhouse.
"In recent years, both bilateral trade and direct investments in Cyprus and Greece have shown a consistently upward trend. However, there is still significant room for growth, and we aim to deepen the footprint of the two countries in the international arena with the goal of establishing a strong business hub in Southeastern Europe, spanning from the Balkans to the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East," stated Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his speech at the 2nd Greece-Cyprus Summit, organized by Invest Cyprus in collaboration with Boussias Cyprus.
"There are clear synergies between our two economies, driven by our geostrategic position," emphasized the Greek Prime Minister.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis also expressed his admiration for the Cypriot economy. "It is truly enviable," said the Prime Minister. "Cyprus handled the major economic crisis that struck both countries at the beginning of the last decade with greater responsibility compared to Greece. We, on the other hand, lost five years experimenting with populism," he noted.
The Greek Prime Minister then turned his attention to the Greek economy. "After achieving the goal of regaining investment-grade status, we are now leading in growth rates. We have succeeded in reducing the unemployment rate to single digits, reaching levels we haven't seen since 2009. Over the past few years, we have recorded the largest reduction in public debt among OECD countries and have gained the trust of international markets," he said.
He went on to discuss technological challenges, announcing that Greece's Artificial Intelligence strategy was completed just a few days ago. "A few days ago, we finalized Greece's Artificial Intelligence strategy, which clearly defines the priorities our country will pursue to harness the significant benefits of Artificial Intelligence," he highlighted.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis concluded his speech by stating that the meeting between the two sides will be held again in Athens in 2025. "With a slight delay, we have established this important institution, which allows our teams to develop a framework for systematic collaboration. From the previous meeting, we have already seen stable and measurable results within a year," the Prime Minister concluded.
