The Municipality of Nicosia Moves Forward with the Creation of an Energy Community
Open Call for Participation Until July 25, 2025
The Municipality of Nicosia announces the launch of the process for creating an Energy Community, aiming to strengthen energy self-sufficiency, reduce electricity costs, and actively involve citizens and businesses in the transition to a more sustainable and equitable energy system.
This initiative is addressed to residents, local small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as organizations or other entities operating within the boundaries of the Municipality. By joining the Energy Community, members will have the opportunity to:

jointly produce and consume clean energy from renewable sources,

reduce electricity costs for households, businesses, or other activities,

lessen their dependence on the existing electricity grid,

and co-shape their energy future through a participatory and democratic governance model.
This call for expressions of interest is open to:

Residents of the Municipality of Nicosia

Small and medium-sized enterprises (such as shops, professional offices, warehouses, workshops, service providers, etc.)

Organizations and institutions (public legal entities, associations, foundations, unions, federations)

Other municipalities, communities, or clusters of communities

Action Timeline:

Establishment of the Energy Community: by September 20, 2025
The establishment of the Energy Community is carried out in accordance with the provisions of the national legislative framework for Energy Communities, as defined by the RAEK Regulatory Decision No. 04/2024.
The Municipality of Nicosia invites everyone interested in contributing to the creation of a clean, energy-autonomous, and environmentally responsible Nicosia to actively take part in shaping this pioneering initiative.
