Odysseas Michaelides Appeals to ECHR Following Dismissal by Supreme Court
Former Auditor General Challenges Decision on Grounds of Fair Trial, Reputation, and Freedom of Expression
With the phrase “The die is cast,” former Auditor General Odysseas Michaelides announced via the platform X that he has filed an appeal with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The appeal challenges the September 18, 2024, decision by Cyprus’s Supreme Constitutional Court regarding his dismissal.
“The ECHR does not act as an appellate court and does not retry cases. It examines only violations of human rights,” Michaelides clarified. His appeal focuses on three key issues: the right to a fair trial, the right to reputation, and the right to freedom of speech and expression.
Michaelides expressed his gratitude to the legal team handling his case, led by Christos Clerides, and including Pampis Ioannides and Joe Triantaphyllides.
