Social Welfare Deputy Minister Papaellina to Chair Key EU Council Meeting on Anti-Poverty Strategy

Cyprus Deputy Minister of Social Welfare to Chair Epsco Meeting in Luxembourg

Cyprus Deputy Minister Clea Hadjistephanou-Papaellina will chair the EPSCO Council session in Luxembourg, driving ministerial discussions on the first European Anti-Poverty Strategy and reviewing the Cyprus Presidency's social milestones.

Challenging Poverty via the European Social Package

Deputy Minister of Social Welfare of the Republic of Cyprus Clea Hadjistephanou-Papaellina will travel to Luxembourg, where she will chair the social policy session of the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) on Monday, as part of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, ministers will exchange views on the European Commission's Social Package, with discussions focusing on the rollout of the first European Anti-Poverty Strategy and on ways to ensure its effective implementation.

Highlighting the Cyprus Presidency’s Key Achievements

Hadjistephanou-Papaellina will also outline the Cyprus Presidency's key achievements in the field of social policy and highlight the main ministerial conferences and high-level events organised during its six-month term.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the priorities promoted by the Cyprus Presidency, including tackling poverty, especially child poverty, safeguarding children's well-being, promoting active ageing, ensuring access to quality long-term care services, and strengthening the inclusion and equal participation of persons with disabilities.
