New €12 Million CUT Engineering School Breaks Ground in Limassol

Construction begins on the new academic complex and “ERATOSTHENES” research centre in the Vereggaria area.

Construction works have begun on the new building of the School of Engineering and Technology and the “ERATOSTHENES” Centre of Excellence of the Cyprus University of Technology in the Vereggaria area of Kato Polemidia.

This marks the second major development project by the University in the area, following the ongoing construction of the student residence complex. The new project, with an implementation period of 18 months, has a budget exceeding €12 million, financed through a loan agreement with the European Investment Bank.

According to CUT Rector Professor Panayiotis Zaphiris, who spoke to OffsiteNews, work has already begun with site clearing and preparation for the building’s construction.

At the same time, Rector Zaphiris confirmed that the construction of the student residences is progressing according to plan and within schedule. The project will be completed in two phases.

The first phase is expected to be completed during the 2026–2027 academic year, while the second phase will be delivered in 2027–2028.

During the first phase, 154 student rooms will be handed over, while the remaining 333 rooms will be completed within the following 12 months, marking the full delivery of the 500-room complex.

The Vereggaria Student Residences are part of CUT’s broader strategy to enhance university education in Cyprus and provide affordable accommodation for students.

The new residences will feature fully furnished rooms with modern amenities. The complex will also include a fully equipped restaurant, a large conference hall, student service offices, lounges, recreational areas, and a gym.

Rector Zaphiris added that funding has also been secured for the development of sports facilities. “We will soon meet with the Mayor of Polemidia to discuss how these facilities can be used not only by students but also by the municipality’s residents,”
he said.
