Significant Growth in Construction Sector: Value Added Rises by 8.9% in 2022
In 2022, the construction sector experienced substantial growth, with an 8.9% rise in value added at current prices, amounting to €1,442.4 million compared to €1,325.0 million in 2021, as reported by the latest Construction and Land Development Survey.
The survey highlighted that the overall production value in the construction sector increased by 10.3%, reaching €5,564.7 million in 2022, up from €5,044.9 million the previous year.
New construction projects were valued at €3,392.8 million in 2022, reflecting a 15.6% growth from 2021. Residential buildings experienced a notable 21.3% increase. In contrast, non-residential buildings saw a slight decrease of 1.8%, while civil engineering projects grew by 18.4%.
Employment in the construction sector also rose by 3.0% in 2022, with the workforce expanding to 37,500 individuals from 36,400 in 2021.
