Tseriou Avenue to Be Completed by September 2026

Costs, Timelines, and Municipal Meeting.

If the current pending issues are resolved, the renovation works on Tseriou Avenue are expected to begin at the end of September or the beginning of October. The Mayor of Strovolos, Stavros Stavrinidis, emphasized that the redesign, construction, and supervision of Tseriou Avenue are under the jurisdiction of the Municipality. It’s worth noting that once the renovation works commence, the expected timeline for completion is approximately two years.

Mayor Stavrinidis explained that the cost of the project has risen to 9.5 million euros plus VAT, which totals around 11 million euros. Of this amount, 1/5 will be funded by the Municipality, and the remaining 4/5 will be covered by the State.

When Will Construction Start?

Mr. Stavrinidis mentioned that the goal is to start the works at the end of September or early October. He noted that a municipal meeting will be held on September 16th to inform residents, shopkeepers, and business owners about the overall planning, timelines, and traffic management issues. The date for the detailed project presentation, which will cover schedules, actions, and initiatives by the Municipality, will be announced in the coming days.

Additionally, "a website has been prepared to provide updates and to receive complaints, especially regarding Tseriou Avenue. A special communication line for the ongoing works will also be available," stated the Mayor of Strovolos.

It is also worth recalling that on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, the Strovolos Municipality's Tender Board unanimously decided to award the tender for the "Improvement of Tseriou Road in Strovolos" to Cyfield Construction Ltd, which submitted the most financially advantageous bid. The project's cost amounts to 9.8 million euros (exact amount: €9,836,275.20) plus VAT. According to a decision by the Council of Ministers, the project will be implemented as an urban development project, with 80% of the cost covered by the State and 20% by the Strovolos Municipality.

It should be noted that another bid was submitted by Cybargo Limited, with a proposal amounting to €10,491,000.00.

The project execution duration is 104 weeks from the start date, which is approximately two years. If all goes well, the project will be delivered by mid-2026.

Redesigning Tseriou Avenue

The intervention on Tseriou Avenue will cover a length of 2.20 km, with an additional 1.20 km on adjacent roads. Sidewalks with a width of 2.00-3.00 meters will be constructed on each side, a stormwater drainage system will be installed to address frequent flooding, and all utility and telecommunication services will be undergrounded.

Furthermore, the project will create 275 new parking spaces, 18 new pedestrian crossings, 14 bus stops, and 530 planters on the sidewalks for planting tall trees suitable for road arteries, aiming to reduce the urban heat island effect and capture CO2.

Completion of the Section from Theoktistos to Tseriou in 2025

It is important to note that, as reported previously, by the end of 2025, in the best-case scenario, the works and associated inconvenience that began on December 3, 2023, for those traveling from the "Theoktistos" roundabout to the entrance of Tseriou, as well as from the new GSP roundabout to the "Alphamega/Lidl" roundabout in Lakatamia, will be completed, according to Transport Minister Alexis Vafeadis' response to Parliament.

Specifically, the Minister of Transport, responding to a parliamentary question from Chryssis Pantelides, who had received complaints from residents in these areas about the slow progress of the works, noted that the project is experiencing a slight delay due to additional work and "unforeseen adverse extreme weather conditions that caused partial or complete suspension of work" for a certain period. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
