Cyprus and Croatia Strengthen Ties in Innovation with SeaTecHub Project

Enhancing Access to Research and Innovation Sectors Through a Joint Strategy

In Larnaca, an event organized under the European project SeaTecHub was held yesterday, spearheaded by the Cypriot Institute for the Sea and Maritime (CMMI). The project, boasting a budget of 5 million, is funded by the European Union through the Horizon Europe program.

The primary aims of the initiative are to bolster the innovation ecosystems of Cyprus and Croatia. This involves enhancing access to research and innovation sectors through a joint strategy. The strategy promotes sectors of the blue economy related to ecological and innovative technologies. Examples of these sectors include aquaculture, fishing, smart ports, maritime security and protection, research and education, and maritime technologies.

The event was graced by notable figures like Kostas Hatzipanayiotou, the Director-General of the Department of Environment at the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment, Ioannis Typaldos of the Integrated Marine Ecosystem Department, and Zacharias Siokouros, the CEO of CMMI, among others.

Attendees at the event were presented with details about the project and engaged in discussions about strengthening synergies between the two countries for the development of ecological and innovative technologies.
