The Council of Ministers approved the regulation for the National Authority of Cybersecurity Certification, announced the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy, Philippos Chatzizacharias, following the body's session.

Mr. Chatzizacharias clarified that this involves a mandate concerning the Digital Security Authority as the competent authority. This appointment by the Ministry in 2019, alongside the European regulation of 2019, aims to define responsibilities for issuing cybersecurity certifications to private companies, based on the Cypriot Organization for Standardization.

The Digital Security Authority (DSA), he continued, will be able to issue cybersecurity certificates for critical infrastructures.

Regarding the recent flood incident on the government servers, the Deputy Minister responded that he received a "vast" report of the events, over 100 pages long, with another four volumes – as he said – for the evidence, on January 2. He needs time to study the report and is already doing so, he added. He will compile his report and forward it to the Legal Service for appropriate action.

When asked if responsibilities are identified but not persons to be held accountable, the Deputy Minister said that he needs to fully study the report, prepare his own for the Legal Service, and if necessary, he will hold a press conference. He noted that within a reasonable time after the April 23 server incident, the servers were relocated to another location outside the Ministry of Finance.
